Catalogue Note

The Column of Phocas was the last monumental addition to the Roman Forum and one of the most distinctive surviving landmarks of ancient Rome. Erected in 608 CE, the column was dedicated to the Byzantine Emperor Phocas by the exarch of Ravenna, marking a final phase in the Forum's long history as a civic and ceremonial centre.
