TWO JAPANESE IRO-NABESHIMA VASES BY THE IMAEMON WORKSHOP
HEISEI ERA, 20TH/21ST CENTURY

The first a shoulder vase with a narrow mouth decorated with poppies, the reverse with a small butterfly, all painted in underglaze blue and red, cyan and yellow enamels; the base signed Imaemon in blue overglaze enamel, with a tomobako (wood box) inscribed iro-Nabeshima keshi-e kabin (coloured Nabeshima poppy design vase) and Jūsandai Imaemon (Imaemon XIII); the other vase of ovoid form, painted with clematis and leafy tendrils, signed Imaemon in underglaze blue, with an associated tomobako, 13.5cm and 13.8cm.
