By Ross Morgan, a modern Britannia standard silver paperweight,

£100 - £150

By Ross Morgan, a modern Britannia standard silver paperweight,
maker's mark CU, London 1992,
in the form of a cross-section of a conch shell, length 14.5cm.

Provenance: A Private Collection.

Ross Morgan specialises in the complex technique of electroforming silver surrounds for cross-sections of wood and shells, using the higher standard of Britannia silver.

When he wanted to register a maker’s mark at the London Assay Office, he had to create a name for his company at short notice. He thought of the metals which he used and decided to call the company CuAgAu (copper, silver and gold). To start with, he used the first two letters of the company name - Cu - as his maker’s mark.
