slight tapering circular form, with acanthus leaf decoration, the hinged cover with an acanthus leaf motif and pierced mythical dolphin thumbpiece, scroll handle with a cartouche-shaped motif, the front engraved with an armorial within a silver-gilt cartouche and with plume mantling, and inscribed In Memory of John Lord Poulett 3d Barron of Hinton St. George Somset who died June ye 12, 1679', gilded interior, height 18.3cm, approx. weight 28oz.
Provenance: A Private Collection.
The arms are those of John Poulett, 3rd Baron Poulett, (circa 1641-1679). He sat as a Knight of the Shire for Somerset between 1662 and 1665, when he entered the House of Lords on the death of his Father. In 1674 he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Dorset.
