Paintings
The department holds four annual auctions of oil paintings, watercolours, prints, miniatures and sculpture, ranging from the 15th to the 21st century. Our recent highlights from the Old Master sales include a pair of oils attributed to Jacopo Amigoni that fetched £260,000 in March 2020 and a rediscovered painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds that reached £37,000 in August 2021. From the Modern sales, two paintings by Felix Vallotton went for £90,000 and £78,000 in December 2021, while a Henry Moore maquette made £46,000 in August 2020. We have also achieved significant results in the sale of important collections, including part of the Estate of Dame Elisabeth Frink and Lin Jammet for just shy of £270,000 in August 2020, and works from the Rothschild collection at Exbury House for over £260,000 in September 2020.
The Paintings department is located at Unit 1B, Castle Gate Business Park, Old Sarum, Salisbury, SP4 6QX. We offer free sale valuations here at our Castle Gate offices, while sales and payments take place at Castle Street.
