11th December 2019 - Modern British and 20th Century Art - entries close 18th October
The department holds four annual international auctions of oil paintings, watercolours, prints, miniatures and sculpture, ranging from the 16th to 21st Centuries. In June and December we hold specialist Modern British and 20th Century Art sales and in September and March we hold specialist Old Masters, British and European Paintings sales. We can sell studio collections and private collections as well as single works of art, and offer free sale valuations at our Castle Gate offices or we are happy to discuss items and give advice. A department highlight was the sale of a hunting scene by Sir Alfred Munnings KCVO, PRA, in 2014 which sold for £200,000.

Recent highlights of the modern sale include a William Scott still life (£102,000), and the Fredda Brilliant Studio Collection (£142,250). Recent Old Master sales have featured lots as diverse as a Dutch Golden age marine scene by Abraham Jansz Storck (£50,000) a Luigi Bechi 19th Century genre painting (£25,000), and a 19th/20th Century Indian gouache (£50,000)
Ivory - Recent legislation on the sale of ivory allows the sale of Miniature portraits over 100 years old so we are still very happy to date and value these for possible sale in our March or September auctions.
